Kyoden District & Kyoden Fishing Port, Uozu
Uozu, ToyamaChubu
The sasayose bonfire of decorations, floating lanterns, and close fireworks
A locally distinctive seaside Tanabata festival long handed down in the Kyoden district in eastern Uozu City, Toyama. The 72nd edition takes place on August 7, 2026. Its defining feature is the sasayose, in which Tanabata decorations gathered from households and groups are burned on the beach, with great flames scorching the night sky and the powerful crackle of bursting bamboo coloring the summer evening. Countless lanterns are floated offshore, creating a magical band of swaying light across the sea. Fireworks are launched from Kyoden fishing port so close they seem to rain overhead, a charm unique to this fishing town. It is a simple, warm festival carrying on locals' prayers for ancestors, good catches, and good health.
