Handmade decorations and evening lanterns coloring the mountain village
A traditional Tanabata festival held the first Saturday and Sunday of July each year in the Funami district of Nyuzen Town, Toyama. The 2026 edition is expected on July 4 and 5. Along the streets of this quiet mountain village, colorful Tanabata decorations and wish strips handmade by locals line the way, creating a simple, warm summer atmosphere. At night, paper lanterns are lit, offering a calm charm different from the daytime. Residents from children to the elderly take part in the decorating, with night stalls and events bringing the whole village to life as it announces the arrival of summer in Funami.
