Fukumitsu Shopping District, Nanto
Nanto, ToyamaChubu
Big-drum performances, folk-song processions, Tanabata street, and fireworks
Held in Fukumitsu, Nanto City, Toyama, this Tanabata festival is intertwined with a local tradition. The roughly 300-year-old Netsuokuri ritual, which wards off crop pests and prays for a good harvest, coincides with the Tanabata festival each late July. The 2026 edition runs three days from July 24 to 26, when streets decorated with Tanabata ornaments around the Fukumitsu shopping district become pedestrian zones filled with big-drum performances, folk-song processions, and children's parades. Fireworks are launched during the festival, brightening the summer night sky. It is one of Nanto's signature summer festivals, alive with local people's wishes and traditions.
