Fukuyama Torimachi Tanabata Festival

Held in mid-July along Fukuyama's Hondori and Funamachi arcades, this long-running Tanabata festival's signature is the 'Umbrella Sky Street,' where some 600 umbrellas painted by local children fill the arcade ceiling. After sunset the umbrellas and lanterns are illuminated, creating a magical corridor of light. Food stalls and performance stages add to the fun under the theme 'Light of Wishes, Summer Sky.'
