Bamboo decorations in old castle-town lanes; a 230-year tradition.
Uchimachi Tanabata-san is a traditional observance carried on for about 230 years since the Edo period in the Uchimachi and Torimachi areas, once the castle town of Yonago Castle. On the month-delayed date of August 7, bamboo decorations, tanzaku and colorful ornaments are raised, and people stroll by in the cool of the evening. Lovingly preserved by locals, it is a simple, warm summer tradition amid the old townscape near the Kamo River.
