Wish strips are flown to Sendai and dedicated at a shrine
A bamboo-decoration event that Japan Airlines (JAL) sets up each Tanabata season in the terminal of Kochi Ryoma Airport in Nankoku, Kochi. Travelers and non-travelers alike are free to write wishes on tanzaku strips and hang them on the bamboo, a beloved summer tradition that has continued for over 20 years. The colorful display brings cheer to passengers and well-wishers and adds a seasonal touch to the airport. The collected strips are flown together with those from airports nationwide to Sendai in Miyagi, where they are dedicated at Osaki Hachimangu Shrine during the Sendai Tanabata Festival.
