Tsuchiura Downtown Koinobori Display

Tsuchiura, Ibaraki

Venue: Kijo Park, Tsuchiura Station Shopping Street, Urara Plaza etc.

Apr 1 – May 10, 2026

Since 2010, Tsuchiura City in Ibaraki has held the 'Tsuchiura Downtown Lively Koinobori Project', displaying about 1,800 carp streamers around the city. The highlight is Kijo Park at the site of Tsuchiura Castle, where about 500 koinobori line up above the castle moat, creating a stunning sight of colorful carp fluttering in the breeze. Streamers also decorate the station-front shopping street and the Urara Plaza beside City Hall, painting the whole downtown in spring colors. Co-hosted by the city and the shopping street association, the project reuses koinobori donated by local households. Dates are estimated based on previous years.
