Koinobori in the Skyscraper Valley

A signature urban koinobori event at Umeda Sky Building, Osaka's New Umeda City landmark. About 150 colorful carp streamers are hung across the giant atrium formed between the building's twin skyscrapers, above the 1F Wonder Square plaza. Since 2022, preschoolers, junior high and vocational-school students have hand-painted one-of-a-kind koinobori that join the display, swaying in the spring breeze. The sight is enjoyable day and night — the atrium pairs beautifully with the building's famous Kuchu Teien Observatory after dark — and admission is free, offering a rare chance to experience the traditional seasonal festival right in the heart of the city.
