About 300 sardine-shaped streamers—found only here in Japan

About This Event

Himi City in Toyama Prefecture has long been one of Japan's premier sardine-fishing ports. During Golden Week, the open terrace of Himi Banya-gai shopping complex hosts a unique event featuring about 300 'Himi Iwashi-nobori'—sardine-shaped streamers that replace the traditional carp streamers. The silvery sardine-shaped windsocks fluttering in the breeze evoke the fishing culture of this port town. Visitors can also enjoy local gourmet food and specialty products at the Banya-gai market, making it a popular family destination during Golden Week.
