Koinobori swimming inside the river (nationally unique)

About This Event

The Asanogawa Koi-nagashi is a nationally unique event in Kanazawa City where koinobori are floated inside the Asano River rather than flying in the sky. Reminiscent of the famous yuzen-nagashi (kimono dye washing) tradition, 150-200 koinobori swim in the river's current between Ume-no-hashi and Asanogawa Ohashi bridges. Set near the atmospheric Higashi Chaya geisha district, this event creates a distinctly Kanazawa-style celebration of Children's Day that draws visitors and photographers from across Japan.
