A 350kg iris-filled mikoshi thrown into the historic public bath

About This Event

The Shobu-yu Festival at Yamashiro Onsen in Kaga City, Ishikawa is a traditional celebration derived from the Tango no Sekku custom of warding off evil with iris fragrance. On the first evening, young men carry a 350kg mikoshi filled with iris plants through town, culminating in throwing it into the historic Ko-soyu public bath. The second day features a folk song parade. All hot spring facilities offer iris baths during the festival.
