Maebashi Tanabata Festival

The Maebashi Tanabata Festival is one of the city's three major festivals, alongside the fireworks display and the Maebashi Festival. In 2026 (76th edition) it runs July 10-12 across central Maebashi. The arcades of Chuo-dori and Ginza-dori are filled with colorful decorations made by shops, residents and companies, and a decoration contest judges the best works. With stage events, parades and many food stalls, it brightens the summer of the former castle town and is a leading Tanabata festival of northern Kanto.
