400 koinobori with tropical mangrove scenery—a uniquely Okinawan scene
The Hija River Koinobori Festa in Kadena, Okinawa has been held since the 1990s, featuring about 400 koinobori flying above the river estuary amid tropical mangrove scenery—a uniquely Okinawan take on the Children's Day tradition. Stage events, working vehicle displays, and food stalls make it a full day for families. Free admission. Kayak tours on the Hija River offer views of koinobori and mangroves from the water.
