A koinobori event at the Mikawa Shaft ruins of Miike Coal Mine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site ("Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution") in Omuta City, Fukuoka. Over 100 koinobori are displayed against the backdrop of industrial heritage structures, with cooperation from a local NPO. The combination of historic coal mine ruins that powered Japan's modernization with koinobori celebrating children's growth creates a unique scene linking past and future. Free admission.
