Kofu Tanabata Festival

Held in early July each year in the central shopping district of Kofu City, Yamanashi, this Tanabata festival is cherished as a summer tradition. Along central arcades such as Ginza-dori, Kasuga-dori, and Asahi-dori, colorful streamers and elaborate Tanabata decorations line the streets, wrapping the whole town in a festive atmosphere. With venues such as the lawn plaza south of Maizuru Castle Park, food stalls, vendors, and kitchen cars stand side by side, while stage events, a craft beer area, and dining zones draw crowds. Member shopping streets of the Kofu Shopping Street Federation hold Tanabata-themed events and sales, letting shoppers and families enjoy a moment of summer.
